Ken Berman

Ken is a founding partner of Berman, Sobin, Gross, Feldman & Darby LLP. From Workers’ Compensation cases small and large, to multi-million dollar Personal Injury trials, Ken advocates, and consistently achieves winning results, for his clients

Ken has testified before the state legislature in Annapolis on pending Workers' Compensation laws, and has been instrumental in the passage of several pieces of legislation that have expanded the rights of fire fighters as well as other injured workers. He served on the Governor's Study Commission on Workers' Compensation Legislation in the State of Maryland. Ken also served as Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation section of the Maryland Association of Justice (formerly the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association).

In Medical Malpractice cases in Maryland, DC and Virginia, Ken has successfully presented cases to juries and received extremely favorable results for his clients with respect to the following circumstances:

Ken has resolved not only Medical Malpractice, but also Products Liability and Motor Vehicle Accident cases for amounts in excess of $1 Million. Recently he tried a surgical burn case resulting in a jury verdict of $4 Million, and, in a separate case, garnered the largest jury verdict ever in western Maryland.

This high-profile, high-energy attorney has gone to bat for his clients, both on a local level, in hearings, mediations and trials within the court system, and before the state legislature, when helping steer new legislation. He has won favorable decisions at the highest appellate level for clients in cases involving Heart Disease, Hypertension and various Cancers. Ken has also forged new legal theories in Negligence, Products Liability, Workers’ Compensation and Medical Malpractice before the highest courts.

Clients show their appreciation for Ken’s seemingly endless energy and commitment in novel ways, from cooking “Ken’s” corned  beef over an open fire, to the many creative awards, plaques, and gifts that adorn his office! At fire worker and injured victims’ events, Ken is received with a great deal of respect, (and powerful bear hugs both from the rank and file and their leaders)! Letters of sincere, heartfelt appreciation from clients and their families frequently accompany his incoming mail.

Ken is extremely proud of his superior ”A-V” rating, in Martindale Hubbell’s prestigious national listings of attorneys. He was recently listed as one of the “Top Attorneys” in both Maryland and the District of Columbia. Articles about Mr. Berman’s legal prowess and jury verdicts, as well as his legendary energy, have appeared with regularity in several notable magazines and publications, both locally and nationally.

A member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar, and granted  pro hac vice status in Virginia, Ken is licensed to practice before all local and state courts, the United States District Court in Maryland, the District of Columbia, as well as Virginia in the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. He is also licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, in which he has filed briefs and won appeals. He is a diplomate of the Court Practice Institute for Trial Advocacy and an award- winning member of the Van Vleck competition for appellate advocacy.

Ken has given numerous highly acclaimed seminars and lectures to various organizations, including the International Association of Fire Fighters' Unions; the Fraternal Orders of Police, municipal and county organizations, including Fire, Police and Sheriffs' departments throughout the state of Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia as well as a variety of Public safety groups. Ken has lectured extensively to vocational rehabilitation organizations, such as the Chesapeake Association of Rehabilitation Practitioners Private Sector and was the keynote speaker at the Workers’ Compensation Commission luncheon. In 2014, Ken was the keynote speaker at the Maryland Workers' Compensation Educational Association Conference celebrating 100 years of the Workers' Compensation Act in the state.

Ken’s undergraduate work was completed at the University of Rochester, where he graduated Cum Laude. He obtained his law degree and won the Moot Court Competition Award for oral advocacy at the George Washington University National Law Center. Prior to attending law school Ken served as legislative aide to United States Congressman Robert Drinan of Massachusetts.
