FRA To Issue Proposed Rule On Minimum Train Crew Size
Today the Federal Rail Administration (FRA) issued a press release indicating that it intends to issue a proposed rule requiring two-person train crews on crude oil trains and establishing minimum crew standards for other freight and passenger rail operations. FRA Administrator Joseph Szabo was quoted in the press release as stating: “We believe that safety is enhanced with the use of multiple person crews – safety dictates that you never allow a single point of failure.” He went on to state that “Ensuring that trains are adequately staffed for the type of service operated is critically important to ensure safety redundancy.”
